Here’s the FAQs about Medical Massage
-
What is a medical massage?
Medical massage is massage that is deemed “medically necessary” by a healthcare professional. Usually this occurs after a physician diagnoses you with a pathological condition. You can expect an extensive intake consultation as well as consistent documentation of therapy for record keeping and reimbursement procedures. Various modalities may be combined for the therapeutic treatment of the specific condition.

Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, not at this time. We accept cash, card [including HSA/FSA cards], and various online payment options. We can assist you with the reimbursement process by providing the necessary documents needed by your insurance company. We recommend confirming medical massage [CPT code 97140] is covered under your insurance plan.
-
How can I get reimbursed for my massage?
It begins with verifying your insurance plan’s benefits for medical massage. Once verified, you will need a referral for medical massage prescribed by your physician. Once we receive this referral and determine that treatment is appropriate, we use CPT code 97140 for Manual Therapy on your reimbursement receipt. We do not file this paperwork for you. We simply provide you with the document.

I am [the caregiver of] a participant of C.L.A.S.S in Texas. Are you able to staff new participants in the program?
At this time, OrganicBdywrk does not staff C.L.A.S.S participants. If this status changes, we will update appropriately.
-
Do you massage minors?
Of course. We massage every body, no matter the age. Participants age 15 and younger are required to have an adult in the treatment space during the session. Participants age 16 and older are allowed in the treatment space without an adult; however, guardians of participants age 16 and older must sign a consent form to leave the property while the minor is being treated. We will not treat a minor without their consent as we consider bodily autonomy important, no matter the age.

How can I help advocate for massage therapy as healthcare?
Thank you for wanting to help. You can start by sending a letter [we’ve made a template for you already, don’t worry!] to your insurance company about not only covering massage therapy but using their platform to also advocate for massage therapy as healthcare. Don’t forget to join our monthly newsletter where we talk more about advocacy.
